The Environment

Why swings?

  • Swings offer a soothing platform for stress release and relaxation.
  • Swings bring a sense of joy and playfulness to our groups.
  • Swings activate and integrate the two hemispheres of the brain as well as the body,

What does the research say about swings?

  • "Rocking movements along a lateral translation caused a vestibulo-respiratory adaptation leading to an increase in respiration frequency."
  • "Swings offer vestibular stimulation that aids in stress management."
  • "Swinging offer hemisphere integration or the activation of both the left and right sides of our brain.  For almost all activities we perform, hemisphere integration is crucial because it helps us to unite and comprehend our sensory inputs. Dr. Dan Seigal suggests, A healthy and productive mind "emerges from a process called integration."

Design of the space

  • The space we use for our groups was intentionally created for Dropping into Your Best Self.
  • We considered the lighting, movement of air, colors as well as the outside environment that also utilizes swings, fire pits, and spiritual structures such as the torii.
  • The torii is a traditional Japanese gate most commonly found at the entrance of or within a Shinto shrine, where it symbolically marks the transition from the mundane to the sacred.  We have two torris that frame a deck with swings.  We affectionally call it, "the moment."

Purposeful Intentions

Purposeful Intentions

Purposeful Intentions

Subconscious programing is a habitual mind that is thought to control 95% of our adult behaviors.  As long as we are "thinking," we drop into these predetermined ways of being.  In contrast, the act of setting intentions is a state of heightened, conscious awareness that enables us to take the controls and manifest our greatest purpose.  This focus brings awareness to unconscious patterns that no longer serve us.  Personalized, exploratory activities provide the feedback and support of the group, and participant's then form their own conclusions, define their intensions, and lay a path to expressing their best self.

Feeling Gratitude

Purposeful Intentions

Purposeful Intentions

Our brains are wired to notice threats in our environment and the resulting neurochemicals can eclipse the landscape of life.  But, when we are appreciative and express gratitude a new, feel-good chemistry brings to light the beauty and gifts that are already there.  In this focus we  evaluate our current mindset, explore the practice of gratitude, and establish new perspectives that widen the aperture of our experiences.

Choosing Forgiveness

Purposeful Intentions

Choosing Forgiveness

Within the secret space of our minds,  many of us judge others as well as ourselves.  Becoming aware of this inner dialogue enables us to observe it and shift to a more positive and supportive voice.  Group support allows us to witness new perspectives and deeper levels of self acceptance and compassion.
